Online State Census Indexes & Offline Finding Aids

for Colorado, Dakota Territory, Florida, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Nebraska & New Mexico

compiled by Joe Beine

State Census records are helpful because they were often taken during years between the Federal Censuses (which are taken every ten years beginning with 1790). Some of the online indexes listed here are not yet complete, but material is being added. Items marked "requires payment" are part of Ancestry's subscription service for genealogy records. Most State Census Records are not indexed offline so these online indexes can be very helpful.

For information on Federal Census Records see: US Census Records Guide & Online Indexes 1790-1930
For some states not listed here see: State Census Records Research Guide

Note: this is not a complete listing of State Censuses.
